Scarred Otter is a realistic CG creature created as a cinematic VFX look-development and compositing study, focused on blending a digital character seamlessly into a live BG Plate forest environment.
The base model was sourced online, while all texturing work was done by me in Mari, using layered procedural and hand-painted workflows to achieve realistic fur breakup, scar tissue, weathering, and age variation. High-frequency displacement details were sculpted in ZBrush to enhance anatomical depth and surface realism.
Final look development and rendering were completed in Houdini using Arnold Solaris, following a physically based shading and lighting workflow suitable for film production. The rendered CG otter was then composited in Nuke, carefully matched to a live-action background plate with attention to lighting, depth, color balance, and atmospheric integration for a believable final shot.
Grooming was created by Luis (Groom Artist).
